The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has officially activated its computerized single-window portal to streamline the clearance process for public Ganeshotsav mandals across Mumbai. Designed to eliminate administrative delays, the digital facility enables organizers to secure necessary approvals and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from both local and traffic police through a unified online platform. With Ganeshotsav set to be celebrated on September 14 this year, the portal will remain open for applications from August 14 through September 13, with granted permissions remaining valid until September 26.
Digital Approval Process and Tiered Authorization Rules
Organizers can submit their applications via the official BMC website under the dedicated festival portal section. Upon submission, local ward offices conduct an initial administrative scrutiny before automatically forwarding the applications to the traffic and local police departments for digital clearance. First-time applicant mandals setting up structures on public or private land will require final authorization from the Zonal Deputy Commissioner, following which a nominal administrative fee of ₹100 is levied to issue the permit. Meanwhile, existing mandals holding five-year approvals can utilize an expedited online renewal feature, subject to physical site inspections by ward officials to verify dimensions before police NOCs are processed. Mandals that held one-year permits in 2025 have been offered the choice to apply either for a single-year extension or upgrade to a five-year long-term permit covering 2026–2030.
Mandatory Volunteer Safety Training Program Initiated
In a bid to strengthen public safety and emergency readiness, the civic administration has mandated specialized training for all participating groups. Every public Ganeshotsav mandal must nominate two volunteers to complete a comprehensive one-day instructional program conducted by civic authorities. The curriculum focuses on essential urban management protocols, including crowd control strategies, fire hazard prevention, emergency evacuation techniques, and basic first aid handling to handle large festival gatherings safely.
Strict Civic Compliance Protocols and Navratri Schedule
Reinforcing municipal guidelines, the BMC has issued a stern warning against damaging civic infrastructure. Mandals are strictly prohibited from excavating holes on public roads or footpaths to erect pandal frameworks, with instructions to adopt non-invasive support techniques; civic inspectors will take strict regulatory action against violators. Additionally, organizers must adhere strictly to municipal health advisories to prevent communicable disease outbreaks, alongside mandatory compliance with fire safety norms and official advertising regulations. Following the Ganeshotsav clearance window, the BMC announced that the online portal will open for public Navratri permissions from September 10 to October 10, with approvals remaining valid through October 21.
