In a video message released post his fast, Wangchuk explained that his primary objective during highstakes negotiations with the Centre was to protect thousands of student demonstrators from legal prosecution, police FIRs, and potential state crackdowns following the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Sansad Chalo’ march.

Recalling past police action during civil demonstrations, Wangchuk stated that his top priority was ensuring a binding written commitment from Union Health Minister JP Nadda and PMO Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh that no criminal or penal cases would be filed against peaceful student activists.

He noted that the government is suffering severe reputational damage by delaying accountability, adding that securing the minister’s resignation personally was less urgent than safeguarding the academic futures and physical safety of student protesters across the country.
