In a massive political shift in Maharashtra, the Lok Sabha Speaker has officially recognized the defection of six Shiv Sena (UBT) Members of Parliament to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. The MPs who have switched sides are Sanjay Dina Patil, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Bhausaheb Wakchaure, Nagesh Patil-Ashtikar, and Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar. This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing power struggle within the faction-ridden Shiv Sena.

With this formal recognition, the parliamentary strength of the Eknath Shinde-led faction in the Lok Sabha has surged to 13. Beyond mere numbers, this move carries immense strategic weight. Reacting sharply to the development, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey condemned the move, calling it an act of political opportunism rather than a genuine merger, and characterizing it instead as a forced acquisition engineered through political pressure. He warned that the people of Maharashtra are watching closely and would respond decisively against those who, in his view, have traded Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideology for political convenience. The UBT faction has indicated it will continue to fight this battle on both public platforms and legal forums, asserting that the soul of the party remains with Uddhav Thackeray despite the loss of symbols and seats.
