Addressing the public amidst an ongoing row over 20% ethanol-blended petrol, Kejriwal raised critical concerns regarding vehicle durability, dropping mileage, and the lack of consumer options at fuel stations across the nation.

Kejriwal alleged that the mandatory rollout of E20 fuel was implemented without adequate scientific evaluation or long-term testing, leading to severe issues for vehicle owners. Pointing to complaints from motorists, he claimed that ethanol-blended fuel causes engine corrosion, lowers overall fuel efficiency, and leads to costly mechanical repairs. He further accused the government of turning the nation into an “experiment lab” at the expense of everyday consumers.

Demanding immediate policy reform, the former Delhi Chief Minister urged the Union Petroleum Ministry to ensure that fuel stations offer a choice between pure petrol and E20 fuel. He argued that motorists, particularly those driving older vehicle models not calibrated for higher ethanol blends, are being unfairly penalized. Furthermore, AAP leadership called for a reduction in the retail price of E20 fuel to reflect lower production costs.
Escalating Political Protests and Government Stance
The political friction surrounding E20 petrol has spurred public demonstrations, including AAP-led town halls and a petition march toward the Prime Minister’s residence carrying over two lakh citizen signatures. In response, the Central Government and Petroleum Ministry have defended the E20 initiative, asserting that ethanol blending significantly cuts crude oil imports, lowers vehicle emissions, and supports domestic farmers, while denying evidence of widespread engine damage.
