A heated argument over who would clear a restaurant bill took a tragic turn late on Tuesday night in Mumbai’s western suburb of Goregaon, leaving a 30-year-old man dead. The victim, identified as Aziz Mohammad Atiq Khan, was fatally attacked following an argument outside Salman Hotel in the Premnagar locality around 11:30 PM on August 11. What initially began as a verbal disagreement over settling the full bill escalated rapidly into a violent confrontation, during which the assailants struck Khan repeatedly on the head, causing critical injuries. Nearby residents rushed the victim to a hospital in Jogeshwari, where medical authorities pronounced him brought dead.

Swift Police Probe Leads to Arrest of Two Suspects Within 24 Hours

Following the fatal assault, the suspects fled the scene, leaving investigators with no immediate leads as eyewitnesses were unable to identify them. Acting on a complaint registered by the deceased’s brother, the Goregaon Police launched a murder investigation and mobilized six dedicated operational teams under the supervision of North Zone-1. Utilizing technical intelligence and confidential informant networks, police tracked down and apprehended the two suspects within 24 hours of the crime. The arrested individuals have been identified as 39-year-old Ajay Munni Upadhyay and 23-year-old Vikas Devraj Paswan.

Court Remands Accused to Police Custody as Investigation Continues

Goregaon murder case: The duo was produced before a local metropolitan magistrate court, which remanded both accused to police custody until August 23 to facilitate further investigation. Law enforcement officials are currently recovering the murder weapon used in the assault and reconstructing the exact sequence of events leading up to the attack. Investigators are also interrogating the suspects to determine whether any prior enmity existed between the parties or if the incident was solely triggered by the spontaneous dispute over the bill payment.
