Mumbai Airport Flight Operations Changes: Passengers travelling from Mumbai are advised to carefully check their flight terminal details with their respective airlines, as major changes in flight operations are scheduled to take place at Mumbai’s airports from October 2026. According to information shared by Dr. Nitin Jadhav, President, CIA, a significant portion of air traffic currently handled by Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is expected to be shifted as part of the operational transition involving Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Mumbai Airport Flight Operations Changes – Key Changes for Air Passengers

From October 1, 2026, around one-third of air traffic movements at Mumbai Airport are expected to be shifted to Navi Mumbai International Airport. From October 25, 2026, around one-third of flights currently operating from Terminal 1 are expected to be shifted to Terminal 2. From January 15, 2027, demolition work on the northern section of Terminal 1B is scheduled to begin as part of the terminal redevelopment process. Mumbai Airport’s Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 together handle approximately 950 flight movements every day.

Mumbai Airport Flight Operations Changes – Terminal 1 Redevelopment Underway

Terminal 1, which is nearly 80 years old, is undergoing redevelopment, with a portion of the terminal already demolished. In terms of passenger capacity, Terminal 1 handles approximately 15 million passengers annually, while Terminal 2 handles approximately 40 million passengers annually.

With flight operations expected to change between Mumbai Airport’s terminals and Navi Mumbai International Airport, passengers who have already booked their tickets are advised to verify their terminal and airport details with the airline before leaving for the airport. Passengers should also check their airline’s latest SMS, email or official travel update, particularly if they are travelling around the dates when these operational changes are scheduled to take effect.
