Mazgaon Egg-Throwing Case: The Byculla Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the alleged throwing of eggs at a Ganpati arrival procession in Mazgaon, South Mumbai, bringing a swift police investigation to a conclusion within around 36 hours. The accused has been identified as Danish Sher Khan, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 3, Jayant Meena. The incident took place on the night of August 23, when the Ganpati idol of the Mazgaoncha Morya Ganeshotsav Mandal was being taken in an arrival procession towards the pandal. According to police, eggs were allegedly thrown at the procession from the direction of the Continental Heights residential building, with one egg reportedly landing on the Ganpati idol, following which tension briefly gripped the area.

Mazgaon Egg-Throwing Case – Five Police Teams Formed for Investigation

Following the incident, the Byculla Police registered an FIR against an unidentified person and launched an investigation. Police formed five teams to trace the person responsible, examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence from the area to establish the sequence of events and identify the suspect. According to DCP Jayant Meena, the investigation eventually led police to Danish Sher Khan, who was subsequently arrested approximately 36 hours after the incident.

Mazgaon Egg-Throwing Case – Police Version: Accused Was Making an Egg Delivery

According to the police, Khan was involved in supplying eggs through online orders. DCP Jayant Meena said that on the night of the incident, Khan had gone to the Continental Heights building to deliver an egg order. During the Ganpati procession, firecrackers were reportedly being burst outside the residential society. Police said the smoke from the firecrackers irritated Khan’s eyes and affected his ability to walk properly. He allegedly became angry and, in that state, threw eggs towards the Ganpati procession. The police investigation is continuing to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.

Mazgaon Egg-Throwing Case – Tension Had Briefly Escalated in Mazgaon

The alleged egg-throwing incident had triggered anger among people participating in the Ganpati procession, with a gathering reportedly forming outside the nearby building after the incident. Senior police officers, including DCP Jayant Meena, reached the spot and spoke to organisers and people present there. Additional police personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to prevent any further escalation and maintain law and order. Police subsequently brought the situation under control and appealed to people to maintain peace and allow the investigation to proceed.

Mazgaon Egg-Throwing Case – Charges Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The accused has been booked under Sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 299 relates to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, while Section 196 deals with promoting enmity between different groups and acts prejudicial to the maintenance of communal harmony. Further investigation into the case is underway. The incident comes as Mumbai prepares for the Ganeshotsav season, when large numbers of devotees participate in Ganpati arrival and immersion processions across the city.

The allegations against the accused are subject to the ongoing legal process, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
