FDA Soap Seizure: Details of the Jogeshwari Raid
The FDA soap seizure took place at Messrs J.K. Soap Bazaar, located at 10/11, Kadar Ismail Estate, near Momin Colony, Patel Estate Road, Jogeshwari (West), Mumbai – 400102. A team from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Brihanmumbai division, carried out this major raid as part of its ongoing efforts to monitor cosmetic product sales across the city.
The action was conducted on July 14, 2026. During the raid, officials found that the establishment was storing and offering for sale a large quantity of unlabelled toilet soap. This means the soap bars in stock did not carry any of the packaging information that cosmetic products are legally required to display before being sold to consumers.
Jogeshwari, being a busy commercial hub in the western suburbs of Mumbai, hosts numerous wholesale and retail outlets dealing in cosmetics and household products. The FDA’s inspection drive in this area is part of a broader effort to ensure that products reaching consumers meet safety and regulatory standards.
Missing Legal Labelling Information and Accused and Commissioner’s Statement.
The seized soap did not carry legally mandated information, including the batch/lot number, manufacturing date, “Use Before” date, manufacturing license number, and the manufacturer’s name and address. Selling cosmetic products without this required labelling constitutes a violation of the law. Soap worth approximately ₹10,93,692 was seized in the action, and two samples of the toilet soap were taken for further analysis.
The accused in the case has been identified as Mr. Nabi Ullah, against whom necessary legal action is underway. FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe stated that protecting citizens’ health is the department’s top priority, and that making cosmetic products available for sale without the labelling required by law is a very serious matter, as it becomes difficult to verify the source, quality, and safety of such products. He added that strict legal action will be taken against manufacturers, distributors, and sellers who violate these regulations.
