The directive comes in the wake of a tragic accident in the Bhuleshwar area during an arrival procession, where a massive 22-foot idol collapsed due to a broken welding support, resulting in two fatalities and five injuries. The new safety measures aim to prevent structural failures during Ganeshotsav transportation.

A dedicated meeting chaired by Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Zone 2) Prashant Sapkale was convened to finalize the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Civic officials will supervise transportation routes and structural anchoring systems to ensure large installations meet safety standards.

To lower risks associated with moving multi tonne structures over city roads, BMC Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has issued immediate directives to ward officers and the Roads Department. Authorities have been instructed to inspect and repair all major routes used for arrival and immersion processions, ensuring they remain completely pothole free. Smooth transit corridors are deemed critical to preventing sudden vibrations or balance disruptions that could compromise heavy idol transport.
