According to Marine Drive Police, on the night of September 3, 2026, at around 11:15 pm, several cars were allegedly being driven at high speed and in a reckless manner on the South Bound stretch of the Coastal Road near Marine Drive. The police have registered a case against six to seven unidentified car drivers, alleging that their manner of driving endangered not only their own lives but also those of other road users. The case was registered on September 4 at around 10:55 pm under BNS Sections 281 and 125 and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The incident may have remained just another frightening moment on a busy Mumbai road had Sana Khan not decided to document it. Khan, who is associated with journalism and has also worked as a journalism professor, was travelling with her family when she noticed several cars speeding past in what she described as a frightening manner. She recorded the vehicles and subsequently shared the video on social media. The footage attracted attention online and eventually reached the police, prompting Marine Drive Police to take action. For Khan, the decision to record the incident was not about creating viral content — it was about drawing attention to a road-safety issue that could have had much more serious consequences.

Speaking about the incident, Khan said she was out with her family when the cars suddenly passed close to them at what appeared to be an extremely high speed. She said that although the Coastal Road has a prescribed speed limit, the speed at which the vehicles were allegedly being driven appeared far beyond what she considered safe. “I was with my family when suddenly cars passed beside us at a very frightening speed. It did not feel like normal driving. It felt dangerous,” Khan said. She added that she recorded the incident and shared the video on multiple social media platforms, after which the matter came to the attention of the police. Khan also thanked Mumbai Police for taking the matter seriously and said strict action against reckless drivers was important.
