Torrential rainfall caused a large section of an adjacent hill to give way, tumbling onto six to seven densely packed shanties while residents were asleep. Five individuals, including two young children aged two and three, died in the collapse. Local residents rushed to the site immediately, managing to rescue several individuals from the debris prior to the arrival of emergency services.
