Central Railway (CR) has scheduled an 11-day special traffic block at Mumbai’s prominent Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). Commencing from 8:00 AM on August 4 and remaining in force until 8:00 AM on August 14, the extensive corridor block is designed to fast-track crucial engineering upgrades and yard modification tasks. Officials have stated that these modernization efforts are essential for strengthening long-term operational safety, expanding maintenance capabilities, and addressing growing passenger traffic volumes at the terminal.

Central Railway – Scope of Infrastructure and Yard Modification Works

The extensive multi-day engineering schedule incorporates a series of structural enhancements across the terminal zone. Key tasks include finishing the construction of a new shunting neck, restructuring the sick siding and maintenance yards, and extending pit lines to accommodate longer rake formations. Furthermore, the project entails critical diversions for underground utility networks, covering municipal water supply lines, drainage channels, and localized stormwater systems. These adjustments will directly impact multiple active tracks, including washing pit lines, stabling lines, and carriage-and-wagon (C&W) sick lines.

Central Railway – Impact on Long-Distance Train Operations and Short-Terminations

To accommodate the heavy engineering machinery and continuous work phases, specific long-distance express services arriving at the terminus will face regulatory adjustments. Most notably, two major inbound trains will be short-terminated at Thane instead of their scheduled destination at LTT. The Rani Kamlapati–LTT Express (Train No. 12154), starting its journey on August 7, and the Thiruvananthapuram–LTT Netravati Express (Train No. 16346), operating across select dates from August 3 to August 13, will conclude their runs early at Thane station.
